Your album may be top-notch, your embellishments as fancy as they come, but at the heart of every scrapbook are treasured photos of moments you want to preserve for future generations.

Given the importance of scrapbook pictures, it pays to fine-tune your camera skills. What's more, if you are planning to craft a memory album with a particular theme, it's also beneficial to create a list of specific shots you want to capture. Doing so will allow you to piece together comprehensive layouts that are as attractive as they are easy to read.

For example, if you are planning to craft a scrapbook dedicated to a family vacation to Europe, Asia or some other foreign destination, you might consider educating yourself about the history and culture of the people and region you're visiting. Knowing some background information on the places you plan to tour and photograph will help you tell a story through your shots. Aim to take pictures of the local architecture, festivals and food.

When it comes to snapping shots of your vacation destination, take aim at dusk or dawn for the best lighting. If you are trying to capture snippets of the local culture, such as food, avoid isolating your subject. Rather, photograph the rituals that are associated with the preparation and serving of the meals. Then, take photos of your friends and family trying the food. When you get home, make these events the center of unique scrapbook page designs.

Finally, when traveling abroad don't forget to jot down notes as you go. There's no better way to share your travel experience than to add journaling blocks featuring your thoughts and feelings about different destinations. When designing a scrapbook layout it pays to be able to reference notes to keep the memory fresh and the page organized.
